Dog News - DMX Cuts a Deal on Dog, Drug, Theft Charges - E! Online

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Just in time to make New Year’s resolutions, the oft-arrested rapper has cut a deal in his pending animal cruelty, drug possession and identity theft cases in order to avoid being prosecuted for more than a dozen crimes. Instead, DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Phoenix court to one count apiece of animal cruelty, theft, marijuana possession and possession of a narcotic, the last three of which are felonies. He had also maintained that he was innocent of possessing a significant amount of pot and drug paraphernalia, which authorities claimed to have discovered during two raids on the rapper’s property in connection with the animal-cruelty allegations . DMX had also been accused of trying to avoid paying a $7,500 hospital bill in April by giving a false name and contact info to officials at a Scottsdale clinic. An attorney for the Cradle 2 the Grave star, who also had a coke- and pot-related run-in with the law in Florida in June, said earlier this month that his client had checked into rehab. read more

Are we really a nation of dog lovers

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

paul green

I am not talking about your average pooch, I am talking about
the most obedient, loyal, loving, and trusting animal I know, the
racing greyhound. This breed of dog is the most discarded of
all breeds of dog, especially before, during and after their racing days.
Being an owner for many years and then a trainer of racing greyhounds
I have seen both worlds and have now decided, to give up and just try
and look after my 14 greyhounds that are now pets. They are
wonderful creatures and all greyhounds deserve better. I am out of
work at the moment but I will do everything I can do to give these animals
a home. The reason I gave up was because I could not sit around and
watch what I call sheer cruelty. I have seen an awful lot of perfectly
healthy animals put to sleep basically due to injures, too old for racing
or just not fast enough and have outlived there sell by date. The owners
and trainers of this small minority are gutless and only one thing rules
them, money. These are truly wonderful creatures and a loving home is
all they need, sadly thousands of these animals never get that far. It
saddens me .Everything in greyhound racing is quite often hidden from
the general public and a small minority of owners and trainers use them
only for one thing, gambling. Only when these animals have given their
best, they are put to sleep, and then the younger greyhounds take their
place only to endure the same fate, as the previous greyhounds before them.
For this reason I have written a book on the subject and this will be out mid-
August. You can pre order this e-book at.
http://www.greyhoundreacingexposed.com It tells you what I have seen
throughout my racing days, how bookmakers never loose. It will help
prospective owners what to look for when purchasing a greyhound.
I hold nothing back and tell all. I am not worried if I upset or offend
anyone. The book may shock some people. The governing bodies do a
very good job but its not enough. Too many things are hidden from them.
For this reason I hope I can highlight the problem we have and maybe change
things around. There are over 10,000 greyhounds registered in the UK every
year. What happens to the thousands that leave the sport?

Thank you for taking the time to read this article

The Importance of Dog ID Tags

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Alison Cole

Out of the approximately 60 million dogs that live in the United States, at least 5 million somehow find their way into an animal shelter every year. Out of these 5 million dogs a year, only about a million ever find their original owners.

If you’ve ever lost your dog even for a short while, you know what a nerve-wracking and heartbreaking experience it can be. Where is your dog right now?

If he ever gets lost, rest assured that if someone finds your lost dog, there is a good chance he will be cared for. There is an even better chance that you will become reunited with him. That’s because you had the foresight to put a dog ID tag on him.

Dog ID tags contain vital information for retrieving and caring for your dog. The tags contain the name of your dog, the owner’s phone numbers and home address, any dietary restrictions, and any other information that might be of valuable interest.

Make sure the spelling of your dog’s name is easy to pronounce. You may want to spell the name phonetically on the tag. That way, a stranger who is unfamiliar with that pronunciation can properly call your dog with the sounds it understands.

Always include your home, work, and cell phone numbers on your dog’s tag. Also include your home address, including number, street, city, and state. Dogs have been known to wander far.

Some dogs have dietary restrictions. Yours might be allergic to penicillin or other medications. He or she might require certain regular supplements.

Some municipalities require current vaccination information. Be sure to include the date of your dog’s last vaccinations on the tag.

Dog ID tags are one way to do your part in taking care of your adventurous canine friend.

The Benefits of Memory Foam Dog Beds

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Eric Morris

You may already know that sleeping on memory foam can greatly improve your quality of sleep, reduce the number of aches and pains in your body, and increase your overall circulation. Still, you might not have thought to ask: is your pet comfortable? Many dogs, for example, get aches and pains, especially around the hips. They can experience arthritis and other bone and muscle problems, just like humans. Why not invest in a memory foam dog bed?

Memory foam dog beds are crafted using the same technology as that used for memory foam mattresses, mattress pads, and pillows. Their “open-celled” composition and temperature sensitivity allow for the best balance between comfort and support available. The only difference is that they are shaped and sized for your dog.

Some manufacturers of memory foam mattresses also make dog beds. Ask your dealer, or inquire at your favorite local pet supplies outlet. You can also buy them online. Memory foam dog beds can cost you as little as $80 and as much as $240.

Your dog might need a period of acclimation to his or her new bed. When shifting positions, your dog might be surprised at the “lumps” left by his last position. Encourage him to stay with it; the lumps disappear within a few minutes after switching positions. If your dog doesn’t seem to have the patience for this, or if the surface temperature of the bed gets a little high, try covering it with a woolen blanket.

Memory foam dog beds are soft enough to reduce pressure on joints and other jutting body parts, yet firm enough to satisfy your dog’s instinctual need to sleep on solid ground. Plus, they promote healthy circulation while keeping dogs warm and comfortable.
