WHAT S IN A DOG S NAME 5 TIPS FOR FINDING THE RIGHT NAME FOR YOUR BEST FRIEND

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Dean Erickson

Your choice of pet name is important. Here are some things to think about before naming your pet.

Your dog’s name says as much about your pet as it does about you. There are literally hundreds of potential names you can give your dog, but it has to be the right one. Your dog will become a unique member of your family and his or her name will heard often. So, it’s of vital importance to get it right.

Browse the Internet websites that are dedicated to dogs for dog name suggestions. You’ll find ideas for female dog names, male dog names, cute dog names, even Latin dog names!

You choice of name can depend on one or more of the following categories:

1. Choose a dog name according to gender.

Do you have a boy dog or a girl dog? Maybe you want to choose a dog’s name that reflects its gender. The most popular female canine names in the US today are Molly, Lady, Princess and Missy, to name a few. The most popular male canine names are Sam, Max, Duke and Rocky, to name only a few.

2. Choose a dog name according to your pet’s physical characteristics.

Every dog, regardless of its breed, has certain unique physical characteristics. Every breed comes with its own set of physical attributes: coat, markings, color or size, but each dog is unique. Pinpoint the uniqueness in your dog and come up with a unique dog name that reflects your dog’s singularity.

3. Choose a dog name according to your pet’s character or personality.

As with physical characteristics, every dog has its own personality beyond the characteristics of its breed. Get to know your dog a little before you decide on its name.

3. Choose a dog name according to your pet’s breed.

Do you have a German shepherd or Labrador? Do you have a Maltese Terrier or Poodle? These breeds are traditional breeds and we’ve come to associate them with specific types of names inspired by their appearance and pedigree. Golden retrievers are often called Sunny or Goldie. Pure breed dogs tend to demand more impressive names, while strays tend to be given cuter names.

5. Choose a dog name according to your interests.

You may be a classics scholar or a music lover. You may like fast cars or a certain world city. Maybe you want to choose a name for your dog that’s related to the hobbies and interests that inspire your life. Maybe you read Horace? That’s an impressive name for an impressive dog. Maybe your all-time favorite city in the world is Sydney? Then call your dog Sydney. This is one way of ensuring a unique dog name that has extra significance for you.

Remember: dog names should be no more than one or two syllables. They should not sound similar to other names within the family and should definitely not sounds like commands. Remember that the name will last for the term of the dog’s life, so try to think ahead and be certain that the name you choose will suit the dog (and you) in the years to come.

Act 119 addresses the health and welfare needs of the dogs housed in large commercial breeding kennels by requiring these operations to meet the new physical standards for cage size and flooring within one year, unless granted a temporary waiver by the Department of Agriculture. Among other protections for dogs, the new law doubles the minimum floor space for dogs, eliminates wire flooring, and requires exercise that is at least as good as unfettered access to an exercise area twice the size of the primary enclosure. About Chihuahua Dogs

Chihuahua Dogs Are Not For Everyone

In what seems like a very tiny dog, a personality the size of a Great Dane emerges. For some Chihuahua lovers it’s just another Chi, and others are just learning about this little entertainer. Whether you have had your Chihuahua for several years or you have just taken your very first Chi home, they will be full of surprises that will keep you amused as long as they live. Since Chihuahuas are known to be the longest living dog, he/she will be amusing you for many years to come. There life expectancy is 15 years and they sometimes live into their early twenties.

However, Chihuahuas are not a good breed of choice for everyone. While there are always exceptions, Chihuahua dogs are typically possessive and protective. They tend to be a one person dog. Chihuahuas are not usually patient around children who don’t understand just how fragile they are. Yes, even though they are confident, courageous, fearless, and tough, they are also prone to injuries due to their size. The Chihuahua can be seriously injured or even killed if accidentally stepped on or sat on.

Chihuahuas are dogs that clan. They recognize and accept their own breed but don’t like other breeds of dogs. Chis have been know to attack other much larger dogs It is your responsibility, as an owner, to keep this from happening. A friend of mine lost her dog when another much larger dog attacked him for no apparent reason. Her dog was on a leash walking from her apartment to her car when this took place. She was unaware of the other dog being nearby. We all know our Chihuahuas are much like our children so keep a protective eye on him/her and be aware of what is around you if your Chi is not in your arms or a carrier.

During a visit to the Center for Animal Referral and Emergency Services today, Governor Rendell ceremonially signed House Bill 2525, which eliminates deplorable conditions in puppy breeding operations and provides for better health among dogs in kennels. Promote Your Business With Dogs Cats and Rats

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Terence Tan

Here’s a fascinating idea..

Having noticed that there always seemed to be many stray cats and dogs in his neighborhood, it occurred to a clever pet shop owner that he could use cheap animal collars and attach an advertising message to those potential 24 hour, walking “billboards”.

He also dressed them up with animal “shirts” that had his web site address printed all over them.

After unleashing about 30 four legged “salesmen” into his unsuspecting neighborhood, he struck advertising gold when his local TV and radio stations noticed the unusual “phenomenon” of “uniformed” animals. This got him thousands of dollars worth of mass media advertising almost totally free.

Imagine the media coverage you could get if this idea was used on a bigger scale, perhaps trying to break a Guinness World Record!

Topic: Dog News - Absent-minded dog lover reunited with pet - Daily Times

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

A Chinese pensioner has been reunited with his pet dog - a month after he left it in his car and forgot where he parked it. Wang Zujun, 80, had left his three-wheeler to be repaired - but then couldn’t remember the name or address of the garage. The garage owner left it parked outside a shopping centre in Chengdu after Wang never turned up to reclaim his car. But the dog only cowered inside - so the rescuers instead took documents from the car which gave them Wang’s name and address. The pensioner told them he had spent the last month scouring the city for the car - and his beloved dog - but had been looking in the wrong direction. When Wang was finally led to his car, the dog started barking wildly and, at the sound of his master’s voice, jumped from the vehicle into his arms. read more
