Weeks after the Customs Department seized their aircraft for evasion of duty payments, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued notices to the Ambani brothers for allegedly evading octroi on two planes and one helicopter located at Mumbai. The octroi evasion has been calculated at Rs 16 lakh for Mukesh Ambani’s Falcon plane and Rs 18 lakh for Anil Ambani’s Bombardier plane and a helicopter, officials told Newsline. While the former’s aircraft is registered with his Reliance Commercial Developers Private Ltd, the latter’s are with his Reliance Transport and Travel Private Ltd. After almost a month of investigation, it was found that there has been octroi evasion as well on the two aircraft and one helicopter,” said Joint Municipal Commissioner (Octroi) V Radha. The Customs Department had issued showcause notices to a list of industrial houses in July and Radha said that BMC would track the cases of those linked to Mumbai in that list. read more
